In 2013, I was about to start a long awaited holiday with my family on an idyllic Island Beach. Within 4 hours of arriving and setting up camp, my then, 2 year old daughter, Camryn, whilst walking back from the water with her mum, walked over towards me and over a patch of sand that previous campers had pushed over a campfire prior to leaving, clearly thinking that this was sufficient to extinguish the fire. Let me tell you, it is most definitely not. This trap, caused Camryn significant burns to her feet and hands as she fell forward into the scorching hot sand. Camryn, and her mum, Nicole, were taken from the Island, straight to the then, Royal Childrens Hospital Burns Unit. Here Camryn has undergone many surgeries and much therapy to heal her burns While her burns are now healed, her therapy and treatment will continue until she has finished growing. The scars may fade, but our passion for bringing about campfire safety awareness and helping to raise funds for treatment, new therapies and research into burns treatments and scar management has not faded. Camryn is an ambassador for the Children's Hospital Foundation and we are proud to be involved in the Bike4Burns ride again for 2017. I will ride this year on behalf of our family and Camryn. I am a Queensland Police Officer as is my wife, Nicole, so please, QPS family, other family and friends, dig deep, every dollar helps us get to our goal. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Children's Hospital Foundation, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
